Feeding Guide
INTRODUCTION
- To avoid the over consumption of urea by cattle that may not have been fed urea, it is recommended to gradually introduce urea supplements to the cattle. Managing the cravings that the cattle may have (including for salt), will help to avoid overconsumption of urea based lick.
- Initially feed salt or a low urea lick such as PASTUREPRO® FIVE + RUMENSIN® to the cattle. Provide salt for one week. At the end of the week, if the intake of salt is above 200g / head / day, continue to feed salt until the intake is less than 200g / head / day. If PASTUREPRO® FIVE + RUMENSIN® is used, feed for two weeks.
- Then feed PASTUREPRO® TEN + RUMENSIN® for two weeks.
- Then provide PASTUREPRO® Fifteen + RUMENSIN® to the cattle in well drained, open ended drums or half drums.
FEEDING
- After several days move the troughs/drums out into the paddock and well away from the water points. This will reduce intakes and encourage stock to graze the paddocks.
- Do not allow troughs to be emptied. This can lead to urea toxicity as cattle can over-consume when troughs are refilled.
- To help boost breeding performance feed 6-8 weeks prior to mating.
- Do not feed with any other urea sources, such as liquid supplements, pellets, blocks etc.
- Monitor intakes closely when starting cattle.
- Protect feeding points from weather.
RECOMMENDED INTAKE
- ADULT CATTLE: 175g / head / day
- WEANER CATTLE: 105g / head / day
- Pasture quality, animal mineral status and condition will influence the level of intake.
- Pasture should be in abundant supply and cattle should have access to clean water at all times.
- For best results start supplementation before cattle start losing weight.
- Refer to “Advice and Warnings for Feeding Dry Supplements".
DISCONTINUE FEEDING IF INTAKES EXCEED
- ADULT CATTLE: 325g / head / day;
- WEANER CATTLE: 200g / head / day.
- Contact your local Riverina representative for more detailed information.
