Riverina Australia Kingaroy Solar Install

September 2022

Riverina Australia recently completed a sustainable energy upgrade at our Kingaroy facility, installing a fleet of solar panels that will make significant contributions towards our carbon reduction commitments.

Managing Director, David Hunter, is committed to exploring opportunities for Riverina Australia to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a sustainable future as part of the agricultural supply chain.

“We met with Excel Power to discuss the options across all of our current sites - and Excel’s team provided us with an individual blueprint for each location, in terms of how solar would contribute to the energy load of our facilities.”

“Based on that analysis, Kingaroy was the logical choice for us to trial a solar installation, given its size and the range of manufacturing equipment which is used on a daily basis.”

Excel Power’s Manager, Graham Bidgood, conducted the analysis across Riverina’s sites, basing his recommendations on the potential ROI of each facility.

“The expected payback period for the Kingaroy site is under 5 years (4 years 8 months), which made it the best choice to roll out a solar system given Ergon’s network requirements and the variety of machinery used onsite,” says Graham.

“This system can be monitored remotely using Enphase’s Enlighten app, is capable of giving the warehouse up to 77% energy independence from the grid - as we move into summer we will start to see higher and higher levels of output.”

The entire install comprised of the following premium materials:

  • 84 x Enphase IQ 7A Microinverters (one under each panel)
  • 1 x Enphase Envoy - 84 x Hyundai 390W Solar Panels
  • Aluminium and S/S racking

The entire installation took under a week for Excel’s team to complete, and thanks to the Enlighten app, a faulty micro inverter was identified, Excel was alerted, and the part was replaced under warranty within days of the fault.

The Enlighten monitoring dashboard provides Riverina Australia with live-updating data about how much energy is produced, the savings equivalent, and the split between grid and solar energy across the entire site.

Kingaroy’s solar system will save up to 44 tons of carbon emissions per year, which is a clear step forward in Riverina’s mission to operate sustainably and conscientiously as a part of the agricultural supply chain.

Earlier in the year, Riverina became the first company to onboard with NextFleet, enabling the organisation to mitigate their fleet vehicles’ impact on the environment through Carbon Credits and Carbon Offsets.

Riverina is committed to taking meaningful action around climate impact, and continues to explore energy-efficient options for their other facilities across Queensland and New South Wales.
