Lindesay View Limousins, Northern Rivers

Stud & Butcher Calf Feeding Programs With Riverina XLR8 & Feedlot Pellets

Lindesay View Limousins is a relative newcomer to the Northern Rivers stud scene, with owners Josh and Kirsty Sawtell establishing their stud in 2017.

This hasn’t stopped them from kicking goals in the sale and show ring - there's a waiting list for their bulls, and show steers are sought after as soon as they hit the ground.

The Sawtells joined Riverina’s customer base in 2021, implementing XLR8 and Feedlot Pellets into their stud and butcher calf feeding programs.

Riverina XLR8 is a one-stop-shop product, providing Lindesay View cattle with a balanced ration of protein, vitamins and minerals.

“We’ve been Riverina customers for a couple years now and are very happy with the products we get delivered,” says Josh (Lindesay View).

“One reason we’ve continued with Riverina is their customer service - they understand the farmer, and we appreciate their reliability and willingness to always go that extra mile for us”.

The Sawtells have regular contact with their local Riverina rep, Josh Wells, to maintain regular delivery of product and ensure the ration is meeting nutritional requirements.

“We touch base quite often to catch up about the butcher calves Lindesay View turn off, and how well they’re measuring up once processed,” says Josh (Riverina).

“Looking at metrics like fat cover, yield percentage and other carcase results helps us to gauge how effective the feed has been in getting the animal up to spec”

“It’s great to be working with customers who take such an active interest in the data around their animals, and using that information to make decisions about feed, genetics and other day-to-day parts of the operation.”

Lindesay View grow Rye grass for their cattle during winter, providing an excellent roughage source to supplement with Riverina’s products.

As the herd is moved onto this high protein pasture each season, the high protein XLR8 pellet is traded out for Riverina Feedlot Pellets, which is higher in energy to balance the total ration and optimise growth.

“Using Riverina’s XLR8 and Feedlot Pellets, we’re able to dress out butcher calves at around 200kg, while still on the cow at around 9-10 months of age,” says Josh (Lindesay View).

“These products also help us to maximise performance for our growing Limousin sale bulls.

“With bulls being supplementary fed to ensure they reach their full potential, Riverina helps us to deliver the best article for the beef industry in terms of growth and performance.”

The Sawtells have imported Limousin genetics from various sires to improve the quality of their herd, with show results speaking for themselves.

In 2022 alone, Josh and Kirsty have sold steers which have gone on to win:

  • Champion Heavyweight Steer, Ekka
  • Reserve Champion Steer, Farmfest
  • Grand Champion Carcase, Casino Beef Week

Riverina looks forward to supporting Lindesay Limousins in many more winner’s circles, and are proud to play a part in developing these premium quality cattle.
