International Economic Week in Review: Solid Fundamentals But Creeping Inflation Increases

     The big news this week was the growing inflationary pressure in several jurisdictions.  EU inflation rose 1.8% Y/Y in their latest report.  Hikes in the French and German rates corroborated this increase.  The UK’s Markit manufacturing report revealed the strong price gain in 25 years while both the US’ PCE price measures (core and overall) are now both over 2%.  Finally, the energy component of Canada’s IPP index rose 5.5% Y.Y.  These area all initial moves, so we shouldn’t read too much significance into them.  But the breadth of the news indicates the long period
