The squeeze on live exporter profitability has claimed a high profile casualty with Elders announcing its decision to depart the trade today. Cattle and sheep exports have been an integral part of Elders’ business for many years. Elders’ was among the pioneers of the Australian livestock export trade, and its short-haul business, Northern Australia Cattle Company, which ships live feeder and slaughter cattle to Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia, is one of Australia’s largest livestock exporting companies.
